Microsoft Windows XPís Time and Date unable to save

Date and Time is an important part of everybodyís life. Especially, a person like me, who uses computers a lot. I have Windows XP on my laptop from 5-6 years. But it has never ever given an error or complains. But I donít know why from the past 2 weeks, the date and time is resetting the time to 12:00 am and date to 1 January, 2000. I also tried setting it to the correct time and date, but when restarted the time again gets reset.

Reasons:- your CMOS battery(a round shaped battery connected in your mother board) has got useless.

solution:- purchase a new CMOS battery and then install it in your mother board.CMOS battery is available at around Rs.15-20 on any computer shop.

    best of luck.

Re: Microsoft Windows XPís Time and Date unable to save

    Hi Friend,

Inside the CPU, there are many of hardware which needs to
be renewed after some years. A cell called CMOS cell regulates
all the Bios actions including Date and Time. It is an important
part of the cpu because it keeps it up to date. It helps to save
data like recognizing harddisk on every start up, ercognising mother
board, etc. May this cell has lost power or is expired because
you are using it from are long time.

You should replace it with a new one. Don't fear about money.
It will be only of max Rs 20. If you buy of company MAXELL then it
    will good.

If you need to configure it then you can ask here in this forum only.

    Hope it will help!
    Thank you!!!

    Hello dear Aspirant

First thing you will need to do is Format the Whole system

The Reason behind the issue is Some times the days goes on increasing the Lift time of the system may reduce

I think most of the Problem is due to the Above Reason

So you can Try to solve the issue by Formatting

It will Never be happened again since By Formatting you can Extend the space as well

Then you can try to click on the " Control Panel "

Now you must click on the "Date and Time "

There you will find a " Time Zone " and Try to change According to your Place

Finally Check on the " Automatically Adjust the Date and Time to the DST settings "

Thus you can Adjust the Date and Time Automatically

    That is all

I hope this information will be useful to you

    Good luck

Re: Microsoft Windows XPís Time and Date unable to save

What you are encountering now is a simple problem of the System Battery Exhaustion .

Every running System has a motherboard Which has a BIOS installed which is a ROM and need continuous power to store and preserve the settings in it even after the Main Power and the system shut down.

This Mother Board has an On board Tablet Shaped Rechargeable battery which collects charge when the system is on main power and provides power backup to the System BIOS when the Main Power is turned off.

You have this old system whose battery is exhausted and can't Recharge and provide power backup when the system is shut diwn leading in to this problem of time resetting.

The battery need o be changed, by getting a new one and replacing the old.

Your time and date are not saved because your Motherboard CMOS Battery is expired so you have to purchase it from the shop and 1 battery is available to you in 15 rupees.
